Soft Water: The First Step in Boiler Water Treatment
Introduction
In our previous column, we explained why water treatment is so important for boilers.
This time, we would like to introduce the first and most basic step: using soft water.
Hard Water and Soft Water
Water is often described as either “hard” or “soft”.
The difference depends on how many minerals — mainly calcium and magnesium — the water contains.

What Is a Water Softener?
A water softener removes hardness minerals from the water before it enters the boiler.
Inside the softener, calcium and magnesium are replaced with sodium, which does not form scale.
